Edtech infrastructures: From exhaustion to revitalization

Edtech infrastructures are so omnipresent nowadays that it is perhaps more suitable to approach them as atmospheric, rather than as neutral background or as tools to use. Starting from this perspective, I will outline how such edtech atmospheres can be investigated. I will suggest that edtech infrastructures nowadays tend to contribute to a general condition of exhaustion in education, but that this does not need to be the case: when carefully designed and deployed, edtech infrastructures have the potential to revitalize schools and education practices.

About

Mathias Decuypere is a Professor of School Development and Governance at PH Zurich. His research adopts an international, macro-level perspective on educational policymaking and governance. It is interested in how distinct global developments in governance affect local school practices. In that respect, he investigates how educational technologies can be used to foster pedagogically meaningful digitisation processes in schools.
